Hello everyone!
Sorry I've been a little busy for the past few days but I'm here now, and instead of me babbling about me, let's get straight for todays point.
Solos!
What is it with solos? Why do we like em? Why don't we like em? It's a tough call.
Anyways here are 10 very likable solos, as we rank the Top 10 solos of all(which means ANY genre)
You might see a pattern, you might see something familiar, hopefully you'll se some suprises too.
Now as to WHAT exactly classifies as a good solo for me, it's like this. 90% The melody, 10% Technique/Speed
I don't care how fast you shred or sweep, the melody of the solo is whats most important. Otherwise it's just a crime to music. Without melody whats the point?
10. Metallica - Master Of Puppets - James Hetfield, Kirk Hammet
This solo needs no introducing. It's one of the best and beautifully composed. First Hetfields, which I think is better, then Kirks. And people wonder why MoP was their peak...
9. Dream Theater - Stream Of Consciousness - John Petrucci
Petrucci has been often voted as one of the worlds best guitarist, shredder aswell. Unfortunately I haven't seen a really good and beautiful solo from him yet. He's got the speed no doubt, but the melody lacks a little. But this song has a beautiful mix of both, speed and melody. I think there are two or three solos from him here. Very good ones.
8. Children Of Bodom - Follow The Reaper - Alexi Laiho, Roope Latvala
Alexi Laiho has much potential. It's just unfortunate that he too relies too much on the speed. But here, with Roope Latvala, both of them create a beautiful solo to a very good song. Very nice.
7. Pantera - Cemetery Gates - Dimebag Darrel
Dimebags solos are somewhat very special. It's why I like him, you can tell when it's him doing a solo. He managed to create is own style. Which makes him even better. I find that Cemetery Gates holds the best solo of him. Simply put, beautiful.
6. Judas Priest - Painkiller - Glenn Tipton
This is no news. I posted about a week ago that I had fell in love with this solo. And still do. It's amazing. Absolutely love it. Wonderful melody, beautiful arrangement. Great.
5. Fueled By Fire - Betrayal - Rick Rangel
So this band surely suprised me. Very good thrash band, if you get a chance listen to them. Their album Spread The Fire, debut album has some nice moments. But to the point, this song has got the best solo. It was one of those things, I was sittin', listening, the song came, nothing special, then solo kicked in and I jumped up. Amazing.
4. Iron Maiden - Fear Of The Dark - Dave Murray, Janick Gers
Janick Gers and Dave Murray, both amazing guitarist. And if I am gonna choose one song, for where they combine both of their greatness, Fear of the Dark is the one. Both solos have the ability to make me headband more than anything. And I love them for that. Two solos in one song, one of the best songs. Can you ask for more?
3. Metallica - Ride The Lightning - Kirk Hammet
Kirk, kirk. What else can you say. There's a reason why he is in the Top 5 of best guitarists of all time. On the album Ride The Lightning, he showed that he rule. This was his peak. And the song, proves it. His second best solo ever, in my opinion. From tapping to slow picking to shredding. Oh yes, that's what daddy likes.
2. Metallica - Fade To Black - Kirk Hammet
As I said, Ride The Lightning(album) was his peak. And Fade To Black, holds Kirks best work. The solo has got everything you could ask. It's structure, melody, speed it all just comes together as the best... I wanted to pick this as my number one, but since I have to be more open minded, that spot is for someone else.
1. Pink Floyd - High Hopes - David Gilmour
David Gilmour is one of my biggest idols. He's just amazing with a guitar. He's basically the reason I like Pink Floyd. And this song shows just what kind of guitarist he is. Makes me feel very little compared to him. As should other guitarist. That means you too Kirk!
The best solo ever.
